Haus of Gloi Brand Review

Perfume Oil Samples:

Apothecary

Notes: lemongrass, rosemary, blood cedar, bitter basil, lavender, and a small amount of vetiver.

Scent: Very strong smell of herb but it lacks the old books smell and floorboard smell listed in the description of this scent. Lemon stands out way more than anything else. This is not what I hoped for.

Wear Time: Short

Cozy Sweater

Notes: Pale skin musk, faded perfume, Egyptain amber, softly burning nag champa incense, and a fine aged vanilla.

Scent: Just based on the listed notes I would not have picked this if it wasn’t for it being listed as best selling. The notes sound like a hippy uncle who brings his too-young girlfriend to a holiday party. In actuality, it reads more like clean-shaven white guy on a Target or Kohl's ad. It’s surprisingly soft and complex. The scent shifts as you move. The nag champa is recognizable but reads more as a cologne being worn or a slight male body smell. I think this would work as a fresh/clean, unisex scent.

Wear Time:
Mid

Eudemonia

Notes: warm ginger, coconut cream, hawaiian sandalwood, and a bit of blood orange.

Scent: Smells like Pomander balls. So a lovely Christmas tradition of baking oranges decorated with whole cloves and cinnamon. The sandalwood replaces the cinnamon in this case leading it to be less spice rack and more woodsyish.

Wear Time: Short

Honeysuckle Lemon Curd

Notes:
Rich lemon curd with a touch of fresh honeysuckle.

Scent: My all-time favorite scent was a lemon candle from Homegoods that I had when I was 17. The fact that it’s a fond memory from the worst year of my life tells you how good this is. This is that scent. A very pleasant lemon that’s not like the actual thing. It’s more pie-like, just don’t expect much honeysuckle.

Wear Time: Mid

Litchi Milk Tea

Notes: Litchi fruit, black tea, bit of coconut milk.

Scent: Smells like cheap shampoo, some gift bag, drugstore thing you pick up for a family member you don’t know what to get them for their birthday.

Wear Time: N/A

Moon Dog

Notes: Coconut, sandalwood, nutmeg, and clove.

Scent: I don’t have much for this one. It’s warm, sharp, spices & woods. Dodges the Christmas spice vibe and leaves a weak impression.

Wear Time: Short

Satyr

Notes: Italian blood orange and black vanilla.

Scent: I could not stop laughing trying to describe this. “Yep it’s orange but it’s not orange” So stupid but so accurate. It’s not sliced orange it’s more sherbet but a little richer and a little stronger, like it was melted down, boiled, and concentrated into a syrup. After wearing it for a while it ends up a vanilla candle.

Wear Time: Mid

Snowflower

Notes: Hawthorn and heliotrope blossoms, snow, winter air, Crystalline musk.

Scent: Ya it has that snow air crispness but the mix of flowers in there is just sharp blegh. Kinda like trying to eat flowers must feel like.

Wear Time: N/A

Tannenbaum

Notes: Fir, woods, lichens, and wintery air.

Scent: Reminds me of a tree with tiny blue ball berries on it that you couldn’t eat that my parents had in their front yard. It’s not a smell I like. The sappy fir tree smell is there but not the pleasantness of a fresh Christmas tree.

Wear Time: N/A

Twice is Nice

Notes: Sugar cookie, creamy coconut, toasted almond slivers.

Scent: It’s Martha Stewart level sugar cookie, the kind that is beautifully decorated. That decorated part is important because that almond and coconut really comes through. This adds a level of class to this scent because it can’t be replaced by a holiday hand cream.

Wear Time: Short

Vice

Notes: Turkish coffee, marshmallow, graham cracker, hazelnuts, and black chocolate.

Scent: A good coffee, that’s it. There is a top-level warmth and a cool sweetness underneath. Nicely complex for such a simple concept.
