Butterick B5935 Review

Let’s start off by saying this is an odd duck in my pattern collection. The reason being is it doesn’t have a size 14 like my other patterns that typically range from size 6-14. This was easy enough to account for: I just measured the increase between size 10 and 12.

This pattern does require more supplies then other corset patterns in my collection with it needing a interlining and front/back pieces. So, three layers in total. I would label this as a fashion corset that does not act like a corset that is designed to create a shape and a bit of reduction. It’s more a piece to wear that looks like a corset. In fact I was about an inch bigger wearing this. I still find it lovely.

The curves on the straps were the only part that gave me difficulty, well, that and the grommets. The layers make things thick so when I added little caps on the straps to hide my awkward sewing on the binding I needed extra long posts for my grommets. (Hey I’m new to this and the difference between eyelets and grommets is not well labeled on some things and that also led to lot of awkwardness.)
