Simplicity 8162 A Review

This is the first sewing pattern I completed when I was learning to sew. I followed the wonderful advice of starting with the underwear since no one but you has to see it. It’s a decent pattern for a first-time project but the directions are a bit finicky for the underarms. Not the end of the world if you don’t do it 100% correct. I don’t feel that this is the best idea for a slip, the 1 of 3 patterns I used, as the ruffles add a lot of bulk. I think the fabric I used was a little stiff and likely added to the bulk. (I chose the fabric I did because it gave the impression that it would be nice against the skin.) I do believe this pattern would be easy to modify and remove the ruffle to make it a little more useful as an actual slip. In addition, the body part of the slip seemed bigger than needed and the arms felt very restricting. I have since started to increase the arms of the patterns I use and I’ll chalk this up to being a me thing.
